C2E2 Time Already?

It’s pretty amazing but time is flying again.

The new baby is about three months away. The sports store site is almost a year old. My son is close to 3.25 years old. And Chicago’s best show in almost 5 years is upon us…C2E2! And it’s only in its first year. I will in town all weekend so swing by the Square 1 Press booth with Superb Steve Hoveke much of the time. I’ll also be roaming and visiting friends, too.

It’s Been a While…

It’s been over a month since I dropped a post here. At this point, I am sure no one is reading this any longer. Well, maybe a few. Who knows really…

Anyway.

Things were crazy for me in September and October. The first annual Long Beach Comic Con was a huge success and we’ve already begun work on year two. It’s a great show and it has so much potential to grow. Can’t wait to dig in deep on next years stuff. We’ve gotten so many commitments for 2010 already.

My graphic novel is progressing well. The artist, Jeff Stokely is a young phenom. He’ll be a house hold name in a few years. Well in comics anyways. But that said, I am working on incorporating some great notes from a potential publisher. I’d love to be with these guys. A-1 crew with top notch product. Be great to have the book on the shelves next summer. Its our goal. We’ll see how we do!

Freelance is going well. Just a few days away form the Woodbury Sports soft launch. I’m very excited as it has been a ton of work thus far. It’s going to be a great online shop. Keep your eyes peeled for it. Web development projects are starting to trickle in for Jeff, Keith and myself. Which is cool. Both of the recent ones are fun gigs and hopefully they will lead to bigger projects. I picked up an interesting inquiry about some marketing work that I am kicking around. Not sure if it is right for me but the potential client is a very nice guy. I’ll see what shakes out.

Spent much of the early part of the night fashioning my son’s robot costume for Halloween. He has his first “party” with his nursery school classmates this Thursday so I need to deliver one kick ass costume for him. Next up he has Halloween itself and the trick r treating mayhem that is sure ensue (and the sugar rush) followed by a costume birthday party on Sunday.

Time to hit the sack. The last three hours of freelance work has tired me the hell out. Gotta be up in about four hours to do Daddy duty. Could be worse, right? =)

It’s that time of year again. Though, In New York you wouldn’t think it was a day after April 15th with all the rain we’ve gotten. June saw all but 2 days have some form or rain. How insane is that?

Well, it’s now July and the weather is drying out. Kinda. Either way, it’s time for some sweet summer music and Kirby Krackle is at it again with a brand new single, FREE by joining their email list, ready to join your summer iTunes mix. Wow, can any more famous people die the last few weeks? Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, Michae Jackson and even more I really can’t recall right now. Jeez.

I’ll be selfish hear and hope that all these famous deaths will keep the people I know and love amoung the living.

Memorial Day

Memorial Day is one my favorite holidays. Every year we go to the local parade near my parents and watch. Admitedly, it has gotten smaller and a bit disorganized, but it is a very fun tradition. It’s short, about half an hour or so now. Which is good because any longer might be a pain in the ass for me these days. When I was young, and in little league, I marched every year. In my uniform. I didn’t really like it that much back then. I saw it more as work then as a responsibility. But I was 8.

Flash foward to today. This was my son’s third parade, having been born in January of 2007, he really only got into this year, at 2 1/2. He was waving his flag and poppy flower (for those of you who don’t know what that is, it is a little handmade flower that veterans make and then give as gifts for donations). It makes me happy and proud. Both of my grandfathers were WWII vets. My dad’s dad in the Pacific and my Mom’s dad in Europe. I was too young or uninterested to be able to hear any of their stories and I am regretful & saddened by that. It is such an important time in our share global history and every day we lose another link to that true past.

So while you are all digesting your BBQ and thinking about how sweet this summer is going to be, do yourself a favor and just take a few minutes and think about all the men and women who put themselves in harms way and ultimately may have given their lives so that we can enjoy our freedoms.

No CARE in Healthcare

How crazy is this. I have a few friends that are going through some health issues, much like myself. I have been lucky enough, knock on wood, to not have any issues with my healthcare provider for the needed tests and medication. However, both of my friends had nothing but issues. Denying tests. Holding claims. Just plain awful stuff. How can you ever expect to get better if you can’t even get help from the one place that should help you. Your healthCARE provider. Go figure.

On a side note, I have been lucky to have a great doctor working with me. I can’t say the same for another friend. Where my doctor is looking for every way to help, his doctor is cutting off his pain medication. Yeash.
